Using Tools
Remember … there is no spoon.
Experience is not a necessary prerequisite for these projects. You may think that you have no skills when it comes to shop projects, but believe me, you already have experience with tools. If you can use a fork, or a spoon, or even a spork, then you have experience using tools. You’ve just used a keyboard and a mouse to get to this website, and those are tools.
Most of the tools you’ll hear us talk about are tools like these – that is, external tools. But our ability to use these tools stems from effectiveness of utilizing a couple of special built-in tools (and no, neither one of them is what you’re thinking).
Most of us come equipped with a very important doodad, called an opposable thumb. If you’re fortunate, you might even have two. This nifty little appendage makes using tools easier, if not possible.
Your next important built-in tool is your brain. If you were able to get online and find our website, I’m convinced that you have a brain. This bucket of gray goo is super-important because it’s going to help you to navigate your way through these projects, learn from your mistakes, feel pride in your work, and it’ll be the repository for all of the mad skill you’re going to develop and put to good use.
